NASPO and the Global Electronics Council co-developed this course that offers introductory concepts for implementing sustainability in the procurement process. The course will cover topics related to what sustainability is, what that looks like in procurement, the value of sustainable purchasing, and a high-level look at how to begin implementing sustainable purchasing.

This course is a web-based training that is self-paced. Given the length, you are encouraged to take the course in small segments that meet the needs of your schedule. You determine, when, where, and at what speed you complete this course.

Suggested Audience:
Any public sector professional seeking to gain a better understanding of how to implement sustainable purchasing in the procurement process.

Goal(s):
To provide procurement officers with an understanding of sustainability in the procurement process and best practices surrounding sustainable purchasing.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:

1. 1. Determine the value of implementing a successful Sustainable Purchasing program and its impact on your role, human health, and the environment. Define the four-step talent management strategy.
   2. Identify the main components of sustainable commodities.
   3. Determine how the Procurement First Philosophy is a driving force of a Sustainable Purchasing Process.
   4. Identify challenges and solutions of developing a Sustainable Purchasing program.
   5. Identify key elements of a reliable ecolabel and how to determine those elements.
   6. Determine how life cycle thinking plays a role in sustainable purchasing.
   7. Determine how sustainable strategies can be embedded into each step of the procurement process.
