The Emerging Leader Award recognizes individuals who are rising leaders in state procurement. These individuals demonstrate leadership skills, innovation, integrity, and strive for positive results. An Emerging Leader is newer to a leadership role and does not have to be a supervisor. These individuals can be a leader in different facets of state procurement (e.g. Leading a procurement project, solicitations, etc.).
Criteria for Emerging Leaders Award:
- A recommended 2 – 5 years’ experience within a leadership role. This Individual is rising in a leadership position and could potentially be a state procurement leader in the future.
- Open to multiple leadership roles in state procurement.
- Nominees should exhibit at least 2 or more competencies listed below.

Leadership
- The art of motivating and influencing groups of people towards a common goal. Leadership is also maintaining a work culture conducive to career development and talent cultivation.
Innovative
- Creating new and improved ways to solve problems and streamline efficiencies. Working towards solutions to problems on the horizons.
Results
- Demonstrating quality and value of procurements and initiatives that lead to increased customer satisfaction and customer engagement.
Integrity
- Incorporating ethical behaviors into everyday operations. Doing the right thing when no one is looking, even when there are negative consequences associated with it.
The committee will select one finalist from each NASPO region. Each finalist will be invited to and recognized at NASPO Annual. During NASPO Awards, the committee will announce one of the four regional finalists as this years Emerging Leader Award recipient.
